Wear It Pink Event: A Successful Day for Breast Cancer Awareness
Sheppey Matters would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made our Wear It Pink event on Friday, October 18th, a tremendous success in raising awareness and support for Breast Cancer.
We were honoured to have Melissa from the Medway Breast Care Unit, who provided invaluable insights and hands-on guidance with her realistic silicone breast models to demonstrate best practices for regular breast self-exams. Melissa was available to answer questions and share essential information on what to expect from mammograms and beyond. Her presence had a powerful impact, with several women committing to schedule their mammograms after attending the event.
In addition, we welcomed a speaker from The Harmony Therapy Trust, a local charity offering complementary holistic therapies free of charge to NHS patients diagnosed with cancer and other serious illnesses. They provided a warm, informative discussion on the resources available to those affected by these challenges.
The day also featured refreshments, cake sales, and a free salsa class taster session led by the wonderful Pete and Vee from Salsa Sitti, who generously donated their time. The class had an excellent turnout, with over 20 women participating and showing their support.
All proceeds from the day’s activities, including cake sales, refreshments, and raffle entries, were donated to CoppaFeel!, a breast cancer awareness charity dedicated to empowering women of all ages to check their breasts and recognize early signs of breast cancer.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and supported such an important cause.
