We are so very proud that Nicola Waghorne, our Community Gardener, has been awarded a ‘Swale Stars’ award for ‘service to the community’!!!
We’re sure you’ll all agree she is a shining star 🙂
Nicola works with allotmenteers, offenders and specific interest groups like wellie club, mental health and learning difficulties. She has worked hard to develop the garden and allotments, including ensuring the garden is accessible to wheelchairs. She is currently building a classroom so that she can teach. She has a brilliant relationship with the prison, and is able to do a lot more than they initially thought possible, giving offenders a chance to learn new skills before they’re released.

Well done Nicola you deserve this award, I have become to know you from volunteering at the cafe, you are passionate about enhancing other people life through this country beautiful plants and flowers ,The sensory garden you developed outside the waterfront cafe is a lovely area for others to sit and contemplate life and recharge the batteries and where people with impaired vision can touch plants that give’s aroma to the air and their senses . I saw your sadness in your face when I told you that over night this sensory garden area had the plants pulled out and thrown on the ground undeterred you went and put them back yet again for others to enjoy so Thank you from all of us that appreciate your time and effort .
Thanks Kath,
it is always nice to hear feedback and see how much the work we do means to members of the community like yourself.
