Another great Ready, Steady, Grow gardening session on Tuesday. It is National Allotments Week this week and the theme is Bugs, Bees and Broccoli. So, activities were based around this.
The young people decorated bug boxes to take home and filled them with materials for the bugs to hide in and they did an allotment bug Scavenger Hunt.
They planted winter cropping potatoes in potato grow bags. We will protect them from the frost and the potatoes should be ready to harvest for Christmas!
Then they all helped to water the plot and top up the bee bath in the wildlife area. The weather was glorious again this week. It was lovely to see the young people out in the fresh air. We definitely have some gardeners in the making!
Next week we will be making homemade compost in lemonade bottles and planting some wildflowers to bring the wildlife area to life in the autumn.
