Wellie Club

Another successful summer of wellie club, local children from 3- 16 enjoyed 4 sessions of “mud and madness !!”

Community Gardener Nicola and Youth Manager Elaine supported the children and their parents with various “Green” activities including planting pansies and daffodil bulbs, growing grass heads and seeds as well as collecting bugs and insects to get a closer look. Their favourite game is always Wellie Tossing! and there is great competition as to who can throw the furthest, accompanied by lots of cheering and encouraging clapping.

At all sessions we serve a variety of fruits ,sometimes made into smoothies or kebabs, the last weeks session we had only red fruits…and one young man found a new favourite in a Pomegranate.

This summer we were also able to run a special ADHD Wellie club which focused on sensory learning. We made Lavender scented play dough and planted bulbs and pansies.

Children learn a great deal about the diversity within the garden and through creative play are able to understand how all living things need care and patience to grow.

Sessions will run again in October and this is always a popular time as we get to carve pumpkins and prepare for winter.
